Disadvantage:
Slower (due to traffic).Very expensive for one person.

It should also be noted that the cheapest and most hassle free mode of transportation to Heathrow airport from Manchester is to use the National express coach.
I suppose the downside is that the journey takes approximately 6-7 hours ... but you get to sleep most of the time during the journey to the airport as you'll be taking the 11pm/12am coach. Cost: 35 pounds?
Please take note that you will have to change coach at birmingham.
Personally, I prefer taking the coach from Manchester from either the following:
(i) take a flight from Manchester Airport to Heathrow. I had a bad experience with this. Long story cut short, I didn't get to board the RBA flight that day thus having to fly back home the next day! =( plus there is the restriction of only being allowed to carry 20kg!
(ii) taxi ride from manchester to heathrow airport. I don't think i need to point out how much this will cost, right? haha Last time, my taxi driver agreed to only charge me 250 pounds haha. don't ask! this my friends was a result of (i)!
